It's that time of year again where I get emails from HOLLYWOOD FOREVER. They are advertising the Summer Season of watching movies in the graveyard. They are usually very classic movies or iconic.
It probably sounds strange and especially for me. My dad is buried there. I think the whole concept is a bit curious and I often wonder what my dad would have said had he known about it. He was a strict Catholic and death is taken very seriously.
It seems a bit disrespectful, but then again the people there are dead. I know that this cemetery allows a lot of movies and television shows to film their crypt or graveyard scenes there. I have seen it numerous times like on NCIS and Desperate Housewives.
I guess that's what you get for being buried in Hollywood. It is a great spot for celebrity sightings albeit they are dead. You will find the grandest of burial sights for Douglas Fairbanks with a long reflection pool. Right across from there is Johnny Ramone in a full bust of him playing the guitar, as well as many others.
Hooray for Hollywood!

Flying By
Things are always flying by my house. The Bald Eagles are a daily occurrence lately and the other day there were two. They both landed on the same branch in my tree and sat there for a good five minutes. They were amazing! Yesterday a seaplane went by on three different trips. It took off right in front of my street and then touched down in the water in front of my house. Very cool.

Cute Craft
My neighbor Joan made this cute mini banner for a Happy Spring. She stamped the letters and sewed the paper together. I have it hanging by my calendar. Joan is very talented and makes them for all occasions and can customize one for you too. If you want more information go to her blog, September Tea, at http://www.joanofcards.blogspot.com/
YELLOW
Yellow is everywhere right now on the island. Forsythia and Daffodils are on every street and around every corner. Forsythia! I love saying that name. Forsythia!
My husband Randy told me that the song Yellow by Coldplay reminded him of me. It's a happy song and so as I drive around and see the Forsythia and Daffodils, I think of the song which makes me think of Randy.
And speaking of yellow...dandelions are springing up everywhere now too. I dislike those flowers because they spread everywhere where I don't want them, like in my lawn. They are my nemesis.
Tulips are due to bloom very soon. I have some in my yard and I'm going to the Tulip Festival in Skagit County. Can't wait!

SEABOLD FLEA MARKET had FREE THINGS!
On Saturday my island friend Joan (my mom's name) took me to this great Flea Market here on Bainbridge Island hosted by SEABOLD VINTAGE MARKET and featuring BARN HOUSE. It was a beautiful sunny day which is great for business.
I bought an old dairy bottle from Puyallup Dairy and two heart shaped things. A cookie cutter and little aluminum tin. I collect hearts. Heart shaped rocks mostly. Turns out Joan collects heart shaped rocks too.
The RED VELVET CUPCAKES were to die for! (I admit it, I had two). I also had a CAKE BITE and a BROWNIE ON A STICK! Thank you! Sooooo delicious! And they were FREE!
There were also FOUR FREE ITEMS if you were one of the lucky ones who found them. See the SEABOLD blog for the winners. I really wanted that blue bowl!

Just When is Spring?
My whole life I was told that March 21st was the First Day of Spring. I was told this by my mother whose birthday just happened to be March 21st.
So for years now I have noticed that the "news" and calendars say that the first day of spring is March 20. How could this be? My mom would firmly dispute this and I think she would roll over in her grave (well she's cremated so that can't happen) if she knew the first day of spring wasn't the 21st. Or is it?
Turns out it changes. Who knew? It seemed like "they" just tried to slip that one by us.
How does this happen? Basically it has to do with the Vernal Equinox which actually out of 100 years has only landed on March 21st 36 times. From 1981 to 2102 Americans will only celebrate it on March 20 except in 2016 it will start on March 19.
It all has to do with 12 hours of sunlight and 12 hours of darkness, the north pole and the south pole and Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn. Simply put it can be quite complicated and you might have to be a rocket scientist or an astronomer to figure it out.
The point is that for me my mom was right (aren't they always?). Her birthday was the First Day of Spring, sometimes. Who knew the dates could change.
Which brings me to Easter...well that will be another post.
Happy Birthday Mom! Happy Spring Everyone!
